General Information

The European Union provides great opportunities for academic institutions over the world through the world leading academic programmes, such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe. And studying these programmes policies, terms and conditions gives a perfect understanding of effective European Union project management approaches.

Also, the European Commission developed PM2 Methodology for effective management of EU funding projects. The Jean Monnet Module proposed aims to educate PhD students, young university teachers and researchers, and civil society representatives on effective European Union policies and best practices in management of academic projects.

Main Activity

The main activity of the Module will be a teaching course for PhD students of different specialties at National University of Food Technologies, Kyiv, Ukraine. The course will cover key aspects of effective project management relevant to EU academic programmes.

Additional teaching activities of the Module will be annual Jean Monnet winter and summer schools on EU academic project management for 1) young university teachers and researchers, and 2) civil society and civil servants. Number of learners directly involved into the Module will be at least 390 persons. Indirect involvement into the Module, e.g. through the website of the project and sharing experience of learners will be at least five times more.

Expected Results

The main expected results of the Module are increased awareness on EU effective approaches in academic project management and developing relevant practical skills of learners. The outputs of the Module will include sharing knowledge on world leading EU educational and research programmes, motivation of learners to actively participate in the EU funding projects.

About NUFT

The National University of Food Technologies (NUFT) is the leading university on food technologies in Ukraine which trains highly skilled professionals at the educational levels of Bachelor, and Master in 20 specialities and 44 specialisations for Food, Pharmaceutical Industries and Biotechnology. NUFT holds the status of higher educational institution of the IVth (highest) level of government accreditation.

There are 11 Faculties, 52 Departments, 5 Research Institutes, 2 Institutes of Postgraduate Education, 12 Colleges and Technical schools at NUFT. About 35 thousand students are studying at NUFT at the moment. Teaching staff of the university consists of about 600 teachers, including 21 Academicians, 100 Professors and Doctors of Sciences, and 420 Candidates of Sciences (PhDs).

NUFT library provides students with all necessary materials and information, with the amount of more than 1.2 million books and publications. The university has modern sport facilities, dining halls and hostels. Internet and modern computer technologies are widely spread within the university which enables students to master the use of ICT and receive up-to-date information.

The university has a long-term experience of international collaboration being a participant of many international educational/research communities and a participant of the international projects, including Erasmus projects.

Main Activities

The main teaching activity of the Module will include university teaching course on EU academic project management for PhD students of all PhD programmes at National university of Food Technologies, Kyiv, Ukraine. Additionally, annual Jean Monnet winter school on practical issues of EU academic project management will be carried out for young Ukrainian university teachers and teachers. And annual Jean Monnet summer school on relevant issues of EU academic project management will be held for civil society representatives and civil servants.

Each academic year will be started from the organizational meeting/seminar of the Module team. Autumn semester of each academic year will be dedicated to elaborating and improving the syllabus, methodical support of the teaching course, Jean Monnet school agenda, and research activities. The teaching activities in terms of the Module will be carried out in spring semester of each academic year, the Jean Monnet winter schools will be conducted at the beginning of spring semester, and the Jean Monnet summer school will be conducted at the end of spring semester.

At the end of each academic year the meeting/seminar of the Module team will be held for critical analysis of the progress of the Module. Final meeting at the end of the project will be dedicated to the final report and further dissemination of the project results.

Overall structure of the work plan includes annual cycle of main activities of the Module (for three years): Autumn semester: Kick off meetings/seminars of the Module team; Delivering of methodical support of the university teaching course, and Jean Monnet winter and summer schools; Research activities; Running website; Spring semester: Delivering the university teaching course; Holding Jean Monnet winter school; Holding Lean Monnet summer school; Research activities; Running website; Each next year of the project will be follow-up of previous year in terms of improvements and modifications due to feedbacks from the leaners and self-assessment of the Module team.
